Kindergarten Art
In kindergarten art, young artists explore lots of different media and techniques for the first time. We dabble in drawing, painting, clay, and collage. Often we are inspired to create art after reading various literature. We look at illustrator and artists' styles and identify subject matter. Below are some of the skills that Kindergarten artists explore throughout the year:
- Draw, paint, and cut basic lines and shapes
- Apply glue in proper amounts and use scissors appropriately
- Identify the primary color group and explore how they mix to create secondary colors
- Use basic painting and printmaking techniques
- Create patterns
- Identify portraiture and practice drawing, placing facial features correctly
- Explore artists' styles
- Explore art from other cultures and time periods
- Connect art to literature or other subject areas
- Model clay in a variety of ways
- Practice paper folding techniques
- Identify art in nature and their surroundings
