Welcome to the EPIC Art Studio!
As learners in EPIC venture over to art studio, they will be challenged to truly think like artists. Freedom Elementary will be implementing a centers-based art approach in the art room that replicates a more authentic art studio feel. Learners will be provided with essential teacher led demonstrations on how to use materials and techniques to build skills necessary for them to create original artwork, leaving much more room for experimentation, and for students to choose their own unique and passionate subject matter. This approach will allow students to dig deep into media that they are most passionate about and to pursue ideas more thoroughly. Students will curate their own art by choosing which pieces will be displayed.

TAB: a student-centered approach
TAB is an art program that stands for Teaching for Artistic Behavior.
Students make real choices about their art, allowing their personal voice and style to emerge. The role of teacher is to facilitate a responsive environment filled with organized media for students to access independently, as well as resources for students to engage in the art process, successfully gaining skills and knowledge of techniques. There is more opportunity for small group instruction and means to truly meet students where they are at developmentally. A strong emphasis is put on idea generation, collaboration, experimentation, and reflection. For more information on this type of program please visit: http://teachingforartisticbehavior.org |
